A bridge that serves as a bustling road in northern Italy has collapsed but only two drivers have been caught in the wreckage as the nationwide lockdown imposed against coronavirus outbreaks has virtually stopped traffic.

A spokesman for the civil protection department said the 260-meter bridge near the city of Aulla, about halfway between Genoa and Firenza in the Tuscany region, gave way to the 10.25 a.m. crash.

Workers from the civil protection department went to the scene and the two drivers caught in the accident were taken to hospital for treatment where they were certified to have sustained minor injuries.
