As announced the last week, The National Service of Blood Transfusion has just introduced a new system of tests on blood and it brought about changes in the guidelines and rules for when donating blood.
This week will name changes related to travel, particularly travel to European countries, as well as countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea. With the new rules, when persons travels to these areas, they no longer have to leave 4 weeks to be eligible to donate blood. The donor only has an obligation to mention the country and the time s/he was abroad, then the Service doctors follow customised tests on blood.
Meanwhile those who can donate are kindly requested to make their blood donation:
- Center of Blood Donation of Gwardamanga opening Daily (including public holidays) from 8:00am to 6:00pm.
- The blood donation mobile unit on Sunday 29 September from 8:30am until 1:00pm will be at Medajtriċi Square, adjacent to the Parish Church of Zabbar.
- Auberge of Gozo in Xewkija that on Sunday 29 September will be available for blood donations from 8: 00am until 1: 00pm.
It is important to take your ID card or driving license or passport Maltese, and possibly encourage others to donate as well.
