British Airways and Lufthansa have announced the suspension of their flights to Cairo for unspecified reasons related to security.

The British company has stated that the flights in question will be suspended for a week. Lufthansa indicates the resumption of regular flights for Sunday. Both companies announced the decision with a brief note.

British Airways has attributed its cancellations to what it calls its constant monitoring of security measures at all the airports where it operates, “a precautionary measure with a view to further evaluation”. The decision comes at a time of growing tensions in the Middle East following the kidnapping of an English ship by Iranian pasdaran in the Strait of Hormuz, linked to the sanctions imposed by the United States on Iran. Cairo is about 2,500 kilometres¬†from the Strait of Hormuz. Lufthansa has two flights a day to Cairo.
