China launches a 5-day campaign to complete the mass tests on Covid-19 on the more than 9 million residents of the port city of Qingdao, in the eastern province of Shandong, after the ascertained detection Sunday of six coronavirus cases, which rose to 9 according to local media, and 6 asymptomatic.
The infections have been linked to Qingdao Chest Hospital, according to a statement from the Municipal Health Commission that 5 districts will be sifted in 3 days and the whole city “within 5 days”.
The National Health Commission’s (NHC) tally of 21 confirmed COVID-19 cases in mainland China for October 11 was published after Qingdao’s announcement, but did not include any confirmed infections in the city and it was not immediately clear why.
The number of new asymptomatic cases, which China does not count as confirmed cases, rose to 32 from 23 a day earlier, the NHC said. It did not offer a breakdown on where the new asymptomatic cases were reported, though it said 29 of these cases were “imported infections”, meaning in incoming travellers.
