A bill from €349 for two plates of spaghetti with fish and a bottle of water… In addition €80 mandatory tip. The total, just under €430!
It was the bitter surprise that last September 4th saw two Japanese tourists left in awe in the capital’s Antico Caffè di Marte restaurant in Via Banco di Santo Spirito.
After the inevitable controversy, with vitriolic comments from both Italians and Japanese, the local owner’s reply:
“Our prices are transparent, the menu was clear. It’s all written in detail, just look at the prices: maximum €16 for one spaghetti to the rock.
To pay that amount the girls will not only have taken spaghetti, but also fish that is fresh from us: the customer chooses it at the counter, we weigh it and cook it“.
