€1,000 fine for man who drove negligently with two children who were not wearing seat belts

A 30-year-old man from Birzebbugia was fined €1,000 after he was caught driving negligently when he had two children at the back who were not wearing a seat belt.
Terence Micallef was charged that on 17 February 2019 he drove his vehicle from Triq Ħal Qormi in Marsa without a licence, and when his licence was revoked, of driving with negligence, of failing to ensure the children were wearing seat belts and of breaching a Court judgement
Micallef was stopped by a Police constable after he noted him speeding and zigzagging from one side of the road to another with screeching tyres.
The Police noted that on the back seat there were two children standing up and not wearing seat belts.
When the police made contact with the Control Room they were informed that Micallef’s driving licence had been suspended.
Micallef was found guilty of driving without a licence, of negligence and of not ensuring that the children were wearing seat belts.
Apart from the fine, his driving licence was disqualified for six months and nine points were deducted from his license.
Magistrate Victor Axiak presided over the case and the prosecution was led by Inspector Nicholas Vella.
