Two quakes with a magnitude greater than 3 affected the province of Catania during the night between Friday and Saturday. The strongest, of magnitude 3.3, was recorded at 2.44am. According to surveys carried out by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (Ingv), the earthquake had a hypocenter less than 1 km deep and an epicenter 5 km southwest of Linguaglossa.
Ten minutes later, in the same area there was a replica of magnitude 3.1, with the same epicenter and hypocenter at a depth of 2 km. At 2:13am there was another tremor in the northeast of Sicily, of magnitude 2.4, near Piedimonte Etneo. No damage to persons or things has been reported.
