Minister for Education Justyne Caruana has appointed an independent investigation into allegations being made by the Malta Union of Teachers (MUT).
Earlier, the MUT said it has information that the Ministry interfered in the release of marks by including or changing marks for students who were absent during assessments.
The MUT said a teacher has reported it was found that the marks of some students had been changed and the changes had been carried out by the Ministry without the consent of teachers.
The MUT continued by stating while this is a dubious and abusive procedure, the teachers cannot be held responsible for these marks and condemned what it termed to be direct interference by the Ministry in the work of teachers and thus requested an independent investigation.
In a statement, Education Minister Caruana said she has requested an Independent Inquiry Board be appointed to investigate the allegations. The Minister said following the result of the investigation she will be in a position to evaluate the truth of the allegations and what actions to be taken if necessary.
