For the 10th Consecutive year Wasteserv is coordinating the organisation of the European Week for Waste Reduction in Malta and Gozo between the 16th – 24th November 2019.

The European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) is the biggest Europe-wide initiative promoting awareness raising about sustainable resource and waste management on the continent. The aim behind this initiative is for entities from different spheres, including educational establishments, to showcase actions which they are taking to reduce waste and make a positive impact on the environment.

Are you a business, voluntary organisation, school, administrative entity or just an individual wanting to make a difference? Registering your action is free and you will enter into the chance to win prizes worth in the region of €1000. The best actions will also be nominated to compete with other European actions during the European Waste Reduction Awards.

How to participate

Come up with waste reduction ideas or analyse what initiatives your school is taking to promote waste management. We encourage innovative actions which reach a wide audience.

When planning your action please take into account that the preparation as well as the aftermath of the action do not contribute to the generation of more waste. For example actions which make decorations out of waste material only to be discarded with the normal trash after a short time are discouraged. Such actions would contribute to more waste generation rather than raise awareness about sustainable waste management.

If you are interested in organising a clean-up, make sure that the event is not merely about cleaning an area to eliminate visual pollution. It would be ideal if this event paves the way to discuss other important issues related to waste management such as the loss of resources when material is discarded as waste into the environment. Another tip would be to use data of waste collected from this event to create more awareness on this issue.

How to register

Registrations open by September 2019 you need to complete a free online registration form
accessible on Your application should include clear details of what you are going to organise or how you are going to promote your efforts during the scheduled week.

If you feel unsure about this initiative and perhaps need a meeting with us, we will be more than happy to arrange it and discuss the project further.

Be a winner! The more innovative the action is and the wider the audience reached the better chance to win €1000!
