A  highly complex multidisciplinary surgical operation, which involved 4 operating teams in the auditorium and lasted over 12 hours, was successfully concluded at the Pisa hospital. An advanced tumor to the thyroid, extremely rare and extended also in other anatomical areas, was removed.

The pathology, in this specific case, was indeed so extensive that it could not be treated with drug therapy alone. A surgical approach was needed but required the skills of several specialists.

Four surgical teams and 12 hours of surgery: rare thyroid tumor removed

It was a perfectly calibrated and carefully prepared teamwork after a multidisciplinary consultation requested by the doctors of the Operational Unit of Endocrinology 1 (directed by Professor Paolo Vitti), for the thyroid origin of the pathology.
