Following a long-waiting period, Gabriel Abela is finally in the United States where tomorrow he will undergo the first surgery aimed at reducing pain and he will be able move better.
Two years ago, the parents of Gabriel, who suffers from cerebral palsy, had appealed for the generosity of people so that their son will be able to undergo the Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy surgery, which costs many thousands of euro.
Despite that many persons assisted the Abela family who raised the needed sum, the trip to the United States had to be postponed due to the pandemic.
Now the Abela family is in St Louis Children’s Hospital so that Gabriel may start a better life. In the photo (above), Gabriel appears with Dr. T.S. Park who will perform the surgery.
Gabriel’s mother, Marcelle Abela, told TVM that tomorrow’s surgery will be followed by another two on the 28 July and then he will start the rehabilitation process involving physiotherapy.
“Nothing is easy but we are certain that the boy will be in good hands!”, Marcelle said. “We cannot forget how many people assisted our son so that the dream becomes a reality and we are always grateful to all those who assisted our son”.
