16-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg has made a hilarious shocking ‘announcement’, after spending the week in Canada as part of her Global Climate Strike. Joining Canadians marching for stronger action in the climate crisis, Greta spent the end of the week in Montreal, even meeting with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to discuss Canada’s plans for a greener future.
In between calling out Justin Trudeau, delivering some moving speeches, and discussing how she responds to haters like Maxime Bernier, Thunberg also made time to hit-the-streets with Canadian activists, carrying her iconic “school strike for climate” Swedish sign.
During Thunberg’s Canadian stay, an edited video clip went viral online, that dubbed Thunberg’s now-famous United Nations climate speech into a heavy-metal song. While the initial intention of the edited video could have been to make fun of Greta and her vision, Thunberg certainly didn’t seem offended.
Sharing the video to her own Twitter account, Thunberg joked, “I have moved on from this climate thing… From now on I will be doing death metal only!!”
Within minutes of posting her tweet, Thunberg’s post already had more than 75,000 likes, as well as 12,500 retweets.
In response to Thunberg’s joke, one Twitter user simply said, “You are the best.”
Another added, “Hahahaha! A fierce intellect, a brave and indomitable will and such a strong sense of self that you can make fun of yourself. There’s a reason I admire you so much! – Signed. 49-year-old White Guy.”
This isn’t the first time than Thunberg has used her witty sense of humour in response to her haters.
When U.S. President Donald Trumptook a sarcastic dig at the 16-year-old last week while sharing her passionate United Nations climate speech, Thunberg was quick to take advantage of his mockery.
In a subtly belittling tweet, Trump wrote, “She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!”
To indirectly respond, Thunberg simply changed her Twitter bio from “16 year old climate activist with Asperger’s” to, “A very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future,” much to the delight of her 2.4. million followers.
On a more serious note, prior to visiting Canada, taking to Instagram to share her powerful message.
“I honestly don’t understand why adults would choose to spend their time mocking and threatening teenagers and children for promoting science, when they could do something good instead,” she explained.
One thing is definitely for sure, Greta certainly has a brilliant sense of humour!
