Human trials for coronavirus are set to begin on Thursday in the United Kingdom.

Secretary of State for Health Matt Hancock said: “I am certain we will throw everything we’ve got at developing a vaccine,” underlining that the United Kingdom had put more money than any other country on vaccine research.

The British government will be giving £20 million to the Oxford team to fund their clinical trials which are expected to begin on Thursday.

BBC Health Editor Michelle Roberts reported of various scientific teams around the world working on developing a vaccine against the novel coronavirus. The Oxford team is being led by Professor Sarah Gilbert. The clinical trials will take place on human volunteers.

The plan is to test the vaccine on 500 volunteers until mid-May and if it proves successful, it will be then tried on thousands of volunteers.
