Two widely-purchased Ikea items are being urgently recalled over fears shelves could collapse and cause injury.

The ACCC issued a warning to anyone who purchased the Ikea HEMNES bookcase and cabinets between April 2010 to April 2017, online or in-store.

There are fears the items can shrink and move in a dry indoor climate, resulting in shelves falling and potentially causing injury.

“The HEMNES bookcases and glass-door cabinets are made of solid wood, designed to last and keep their place in the home of Ikea customers for a long time,” the recall says.

Consumers who own a HEMNES bookcase or cabinet manufactured before 2017 can order replacement longer shelf support pins by contacting their closest IKEA store or the IKEA Customer Support Centre.
