In “Top Gun: Maverick”, the sequel with Tom Cruise there will be no Kelly McGillis, his co-star in the 1986 film. The same actress spoke about it during an interview with the ET portal, confessing candidly that nobody has contacted her:

“I am old and fat, I have a look that perfectly reflects my age and this is not what they want”.

The actress is neither angry nor amazed. She explained how her priorities have changed over the years: “I think my priorities in life have changed over the years. I preferred to raise my girls and be the best possible parent for them. It was not a difficult decision to abandon the world of entertainment, other things have become more important. I love acting, I love what I do, I love doing theatre. I don’t even remember the last time I worked on a film.

Kelly McGillis was the interpreter of Charlotte “Charlie” Blackwood in the original directed by the late Tony Scott . The newcomer Jennifer Connelly will be the love interest of veteran Pete Mitchell in the sequel directed by Joseph Kosinski .
