Together with another person, who is also allegedly involved in the case, both men fled to Italy in 2018 shortly before the trial was due to begin against them. They were extradited to Malta through a European Arrest Warrant.
Witnesses during the trial, presided by Madame Justice Consuelo Scerri Herrera, will include a number of Police officers who carried out a secret operation to apprehend the accused, drug experts and other witnesses related to the case.
