Yan Schembri yesterday tried to alert all Melita customers of a present scam going on at this time. We thought we could help him spread the word so that nobody falls into this trap.

Apparently pop-up screens are telling Melita customers that they have won a smartphone…

This is quite a popular way of scamming people. Many are already aware of it and know to ignore it, but others may still think it’s legit.

They try to fool you into thinking that by being a customer you were automatically eligible for a reward. You answer a few questions which determine which smartphone you will be getting out of the two proposed. Then they ask you to pay for the delivery of the gift which will reach you in a couple of days through DHL.

This per se should already sound awkward, because should Melita ever wish to reward you with anything at all, they wouldn’t need to send it to you through DHL, right?!

So be aware if something like this pops up… always look at the URL (bar at the top, where the website is written). If it doesn’t look legit, close the tab/browser. Melita is currently investigating the matter. Therefore, you know what you need to do… just close all tabs and ignore… Melita ain’t really rewarding you for all the patience!
