What could happen today, in the era of social media and digital technology, if a new messiah were presented? That’s what Messiah tries to ask himself, the original series coming to Netflix at the beginning of 2020.
As can be seen in the trailer released in these hours, the production focuses on a mysterious man, played by Mehdi Dehbi, who wanders around Middle East, but also in Texas, spreading a message of peace. His features actually make us think of a new Jesus Christ and there are those who are ready to swear that he has even performed miracles . Not everyone, however, is convinced of the goodness of his actions.
In the footsteps of the Messiah, in fact, Eva Geller , the CIA agent to whom Michelle Monaghan gives face (True Detective, Mission Impossible: Fallout), puts herself: she suspects her activities, she even fears that she can gather an army and be involved in terrorist operations . The whole story runs on this doubt: is it the savior or a very refined impostor? The story is thus told by the multiple perspectives of an Israeli intelligence officer, a Texas preacher and his daughter, a Palestinian refugee and a journalist who follows the case.
The series, a thriller that explores the implications of information via social media today, is created by Michael Petroni, former scriptwriter of the film based on the bestseller Story of a Book Thief, and is directed by James McTeigue, among other things director of V for Vendetta, and Kate Woods (Rectify). The ten episodes that make up Messiah will debut on the streaming platform on 1 January 2020.
