The easing of restrictive measures related to the pandemic led to a sharp increase in passengers and vehicles crossing between Malta and Gozo in the second quarter of the year.
Figures from the National Statistics Office show that the easing of restrictions were reflected in Gozo Channel figures. Between April and June, the number of passengers crossing the channel increased by 56.1% to a total of 907,453 passengers.
In the second quarter of the year, June was the busiest month with 383,386 passengers, an increase of more than 42% over the same period last year.
Figures from the Bureau of Statistics also show that compared to the second quarter of last year, the number of vehicles crossing the channel increased by 45% to a total of 409,569.
During this period, Gozo Channel also increased its trips by 36% to a total of 7,255.
The NSO also said that between January and June, Friday and Saturday were the busiest days in Cirkewwa Port while Sundays and Mondays were the busiest in the Port of Mgarr.
