Italy wins the 2019 Ig Nobel Prize for Medicine for “having provided evidence that the pizza can protect against illness and death, provided it is made and eaten in Italy“, as stated in the motivation for the award that the magazine Annals of Improbable Research and Harvard University each year dedicate research to “laugh but also reflect”.

Three winning articles, published in international journals by leading epidemiologists, represented by Silvano Gallus, of Istituto Mario Negri of Milan and University of Maastricht.
