Residents complain about sewage odour during rebuilding of Triq il-Kbira in Mosta

Mosta residents have complained on a sewage odour coming out of old pipes which are being replaced as part of the rebuilding of Triq il-Kbira in Mosta.
The road is currently closed with trenches being built for the laying, among others, of sewage pipes.
A video footage sent by a resident in the road to this site shows sewage leaking in the metres-deep trench. He said that residents have lived with this sewage for the past week because the contractor failed to work correctly and created an inconvenience with mosquitos and flies.
Asked about the situation, Infrastructure Malta said that when the old drainage pipes were uncovered, some of them were found broken due to their bad state. The spokeswoman added that immediate action is taken, together with the Water Services Corporation, when broken pipes are found until the new pipes are installed while the old ones are temporarily repaired so that sewage is not leaked. Work is in hand, she added, so that the sewage leak is stopped and the leaked one is pumped out.
Infrastructure Malta stated that the second phase of this project is currently underway, with work concentrated on the side of the heart of Mosta.
Before rebuilding the road lanes, the agency’s spokewoman said that new pavements are being build, together with over four kilometres of water pipes, new sewage pipes, Internet cables and other telecommunications services, cables for electricity supply and a system of rainwater pipes.
While mentioning various roads which have been rebuilt, the agency said that Mosta is one of the localities where new roads were rebuilt due to abandonement and long years of lack of investment in the past in this locality.
