Education Minister Justyne Caruana, has announced that the childcare services at six centres run by the Foundation for Educational Services will be extended and will be opening from 6am -6pm and on Saturday from 6am – 1pm.
She announced that the centres extending their hours on a trial basis will be those in Birgu, Birkirkara, Naxxar, Pembroke, Zebbug and Qormi.
The Minister also said that a bid for tenders has been opened so that childcare centres in the private sector can also extend their service like those run by the state.
Dr Caruana said the extension of the service was done at the request of various parents because of their working hours.
She said that following this trial basis an analysis will be made of the needs which are required so that the service can be spread around the 13 centres run by the state around Malta. In Gozo work is being carried out to also open a centre under the aegis of the FES.
