Today I want to write about Father Marcellino Micallef, born on December 4th 1958. A person with a contagious smile and a true inspiration to all. He is truly the epitome of humanity, generosity and humbleness.

Many of us know Fr Marcellino as a missionary, doing exactly what The Lord preached – “Feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, lodging the stranger”. A truly exemplary person.

Fr Marcellino has bee working hard to do the same thing here on our tiny island. Whilst many of us believe that everyone is doing well in Malta, in reality there are homeless persons, people who many times suffer in silence. Most of us live comfortably, have more food than we actually need to eat, and a comfy bed where to sleep after a hard day at work… but that’s not the reality for everyone, as Fr Marcellino explained.

In a country that wastes millions of kilos of food each year, it’s almost shocking that anyone in Malta goes hungry. Many don’t believe that this a reality in our country. Yet every day, there are children and adults who do not get the meals they need to thrive.”

Together, We Deliver Hope – this is what the Soup Kitchen OFM Valletta aims to do. The aim is to not only provide heir guests with a hot meal, but also a range of programs to nourish the soul as well as the body, such as: Reading, Meditation, Music, Computer Classes and Discussion Groups. This is because after all, as the saying goes, ‘give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.‘ And such programmes will empower guests to learn new skills to move their lives forward as well as break out of isolation.

Soup Kitchen OFM Valletta will provide a hot, nutritious, well-balanced meal 3 times a week in the first phase, while later on they will offer meals 5 days a week, from 11.30 am to 1.30 pm.

While Fr Marcellino believe in God’s providence, he also believes that a problem shared is a problem halved. Bolstered by the support of the Valletta local council and stacks of designs prepared by ARC Studios on a voluntary basis, to equip the kitchen they will need about €200,000, including €32,000 for the appliances alone. So our help is needed! Fr Marcellino is also seeking 14 companies that would split the €4,000 annual running costs between them.

Anyone wishing to donate can send money to Bank of Valletta account 40024827012.

Else you can help this girl to raise money for the same aim! If you opt for this option, then all you need to do is DONATE HERE!
