There are lots of the great musical events and shows cancelled in recent months because of the coronavirus . Several appointments are also jumping in recent weeks, especially in the United States , where the health situation still appears to be rather critical. However, this will not be the case for the MTV Video Music Awards.

The ceremony that rewards the best of music video production has been a fixture in late summer since 1984, a few years after the launch of the same network, and even today  it won’t miss a lap: it will be held in any case on August 30 at Barclays Brooklyn Centre, a return to New York, therefore, among the symbolic cities of the pandemic in America.

The announcement was made by New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo himself , during one of his press briefings: “The event will follow all safety regulations, including the absence or limited presence of the public“, said the governor during a conference.

This would be the first event hosted at the Barclay Centre after the lockdown imposed by the quarantine, and both the management of the arena and the representatives of ViacomCbs (the company that owns MTV) have ensured that they have studied all the necessary measures to ensure the health of artists, staff and representatives of the music industry, including the  social distancing and digitisation of what is possible in virtual reality. In addition to the main event in Brooklyn, there will also be performances in the other four city boroughs (Bronx, Staten Island, Queens and Manhattan).

The announcement of the Video Music Awards comes a short distance from another award ceremony organised by ViacomCbs , or the Bet Awards, specialised in black music , which this year took place in a virtual way with numerous performances pre-recorded safely . Although in digital format, it was a very intense event given the current situation linked to the Black Lives Matter movement , with Beyoncé awarded the Best Humanitarian Award who delivered a very powerful speech. In the meantime, the Emmy Awards too, The prestigious awards of US television, are assessing what is the best solution to follow in view of the ceremony scheduled for the 20 September.
