There is no author in the world, perhaps, whose books have mathematically become films or TV series like Stephen King. This year alone, Pet Sematary, It 2, Nell’erba alta and Doctor Sleep were released in theatres, while the serial adaptations of Mr. Mercedes, Castle Rock and Creepshow were broadcast. To these television titles will soon be added The Outsider, a Hbo production based on the novel of the same name released in 2018.
A new trailer was released, which takes us into the disquieting atmospheres of an investigation in which mysterious coincidences and overwhelming evidence intertwine in a grotesque way.
As can be seen from the clip, the series focuses on Terry Maitland (Jason Bateman , in a new dramatic role after that much appreciated in Ozark), a man accused of killing an eleven-year-old boy, and of Ralph Anderson, the detective played by Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One, Captain Marvel), who is under pressure from the community to quickly conclude the case with a resounding sentence. Despite the evidence and evidence being overwhelming, other evidence suggests that Maitland was out of town at the time of the murder. In his support, Holly Gibney also arrives (Cynthia Erivo), a psychic who tries to make Anderson open her eyes by convincing him that it is not enough to rely on what appear to be objectively concrete evidence.
An investigation like many others turns into a morbid and supernatural path, which will lead the protagonists to confront their darkest demons. The Outsider debuts on 12 January on Hbo in the United States, to then also come to us on Sky Atlantic . Meanwhile, King himself has already tweeted his appreciation for the series, calling it ” one of the best adaptations of my works “.
