The Thai village of Ban Kok Sa-Nga (in the northeast of the country) has become famous as “The Cobra Village”, earning itself a place as a tourist destination. In fact, the village has an unusual characteristic: all the inhabitants breed these pets … snakes.

It is a curious idea that a local doctor had about 60 years ago, who wanted to revive the fortunes of the village economy (which has a few hundred inhabitants). In the end the lighting: try to convince all the fellow citizens to breed snakes, and organise shows with protagonists the animals.

Strange as it may seem, the idea has worked, and the village has become a tourist destination; which today is also striking for the familiarity that the inhabitants have with snakes. After all, it’s been a couple of generations that children have been accustomed to grow from babies surrounded by animals.
