Pneumonia in China due to the new coronavirus does not stop progressing. The real-time map of the epidemic , which is continuously updated, shows that as of January 28, there were 4,474 confirmed cases and 107 deaths. Most of the infections are concentrated in China (4,409).
But coronavirus has also been found in numerous other countries, such as in France, where there are 3 infected, in Thailand 8, in Australia 5, in the United States 5 and there is a first case in Germany and Canada. Here is the map , created with the ArcGIS system, a geographic information system that manages geo-located databases – in this case the number of infections and deaths in China and outside China – created by Johns Hopkins University & Medicine .
The pneumonia data
The outbreak is in Wuhan , where the epidemic started, with 2,714 confirmed cases and 100 deaths. But many infected are also counted in other Chinese cities and provinces. In Beijing there are 80 cases and one death, in Shanghai 66 cases and one death.
Of the 37 cases outside China, 36 have just returned from travel to China, while in one case, there was a human-to-human transmission in a patient who did not travel in Vietnam . In addition, three cases were discovered when they still had no symptoms . 71% of the 37 cases outside of China are male and almost all of them had been in Wuhan. While those who have traveled to other areas of China are trying to understand how the infection occurred.
Pneumonia in China, what the WHO does
In short, the numbers are growing rapidly. So much so that the World Health Organization (WHO) corrects the assessment of the risk that the epidemic spreads, which goes from “moderate” to “high” , and has admitted a mistake in the formulation in its previous reports. In the latest report , dated January 27, we read that the risk is “very high for China and high at a regional and global level” .
In the face of these high figures, China postpones the beginning of the second semester for university lessons and also postpones the resumption of schools to a later date. While the Chinese authorities report that students who “return from their homes after the Lunar New Year celebrations must not return to their institution without a specific authorization” . And the Chinese National Immigration Administration urged Chinese citizens are sent to avoid overseas travel by Chinese and foreigners. Schools, trips and organized tours in and out of China are blocked.
