The final trailer of the Joker movie starring Joaquin Phoenix was released. The film is directed by Todd Phillips, and will be a completely original story that will deviate completely from the comics: the Joker focuses on the iconic arch nemesis and is an original standalone story, never seen before on the big screen. The exploration of Arthur Fleck (Phoenix), a man ignored by society, will not only be a gritty study of the character, but also a broader story that aims to leave a teaching, a warning.
Todd Phillips director of the film said: “I was always attracted to the complexity of the Joker and I thought it would be interesting to explore its origins since no one had done it yet. Part of his mystery was just not having a definite origin, so Silver Scott and I sat down to write a version of how it could be before we all knew it. We have retained certain canonical elements and set the story in a crumbling Gotham City at the turn of the seventies and eighties, an era to which some great cinema personality studies I love date back. We wrote it thinking of Joaquin Phoenix because when he recites he is able to transform himself and always goes to the end. We hope to have created a character for whom to get excited, to take sides with, to the point where it will no longer be possible“.
The cast also includes Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2), Bill Camp (Red Sparrow, Molly’s Game), Frances Conroy (American Horror Story, Castle Rock), Brett Cullen (42, Narcos), Glenn Fleshler (Billions, Barry), Douglas Hodge ( Red Sparrow, Penny Dreadful), Marc Maron (Maron, GLOW), Josh Pais (Motherless Brooklyn, Going in Style), and Shea Whigham (First Man, Kong: Skull Island). Phillips directs on a script he wrote with Scott Silver (The Fighter), enough about the character of the DC. The film is produced by Phillips himself and Bradley Cooper, along with Emma Tillinger Koskoff. The executive producers are Richard Baratta, Joseph Garner and Bruce Berman.
