An extremely serious tragedy happened in Portugal on the island of Madeira, in the Atlantic Ocean. A tourist bus overturned and fell from a cliff over a house.
On board the vehicle, according to Correio da Manha, were 57 passengers, all German tourists. The victims of the disaster would be at least 28 – 11 men and 17 women. The photos released by the media show a bus that seems to have broken the parapet of a narrow street ending up against a small villa, lower down. According to the reconstructions, the bus would have crashed while travelling along a cliff in the area of the town of Canico. The rescue operations involved a total of 19 vehicles. The president of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, will fly to Madeira after the disastrous accident.
