Do you know the A-ha song “Take on Me”? This 1986 song is also famous for his decidedly innovative music video for the time: the main character entered the pages of a comic strip that came to life. Many still consider it one of the most beautiful music videos ever made: a place in Seoul seems to repropose this experience in the real world.

Cafe Yeonnam-dong 239-20 is a uniquely designed bar, located in the Yeonnam-dong district of Seoul: it immerses patrons in what looks like a cartoon or comic book.

Walls, floors, furniture and even the plates seem to come from a black and white comic strip, and the patrons stand out in an almost strange way, to the point of seeming almost out of place.

Located in one of Seoul’s trendiest neighborhoods, Cafe Yeonnam-dong 239-20 has become famous worldwide for its original decor. The inspiration comes from “W – Two Worlds”, a popular fantasy series in South Korea and focused on the clash between the real world and a fantasy one.

The venue opened in the second half of 2017, and immediately became one of Seoul’s most “instagramati” places.
