Rescue operations are proceeding in the partially collapsed building in Vienna yesterday afternoon, in the Wieden district.

For the moment the balance is 4 seriously injured and 10 lightly injured, two of whom were in shock, a spokesman for the Vienna rescue service said. The building of the fifties, of five floors and 30 apartments, was completely evacuated. The neighbouring building was also affected by the collapse, according to Der Standard.

The incident, presumably caused by a gas leak, occurred around 4:35 pm yesterday afternoon. The police closed the area to traffic. Under the rubble of the collapsed building in Vienna there may still be people. At the moment, 100 fire brigade units are working and the rubble is being removed by hand to avoid further collapse.
